Wood
floors can be broken down to hardwood (which can
be of cherry, oak or other type of hardwood tree),
cork, laminate and bamboo. The solid hardwoods are
mostly in grades of three-fourths inches in thickness
with some as only three-eighth inch thick. They
are usually shipped direct unfinished, and once
installed, are sanded by a skilled craftsman.

Their
are many different types of timber that have a multitude

Floor
Styles
Their are three basic types of flooring
that you can use in your custom home. They include
strip (which can create an illusion of room space),
Parquet flooring (geometric designs) and plank flooring
(the planks widths are as small as 3" to as
large and sometimes larger to 6").
Colors
Wood
Floors come in a multitude of colors. Each color
is unique to the species of wood, and with the assistance
of a custom stain and finish, the flooring can enhance
the decor of any room in your home. The color of
the wood will add that final decorative touch to
a very elegant room.
Engineered
Hardwood Floors
Engineered
hardwood floors is a process by which thin layers
of wood are compressed to together into a wood veneer.
Once the wood veneer is reaches a certain thickness
they are cut and engineered with a groove or tongue
on the edges, so that they can easily be fitted
together during the installation phrase.
There
are three ways engineered hardwood floors are manufactured.
Rotary-peel, sliced-peel and dry solid-sawn. The
wood in rotary-peel and sliced peel process are
boiled in water at consistent temperature, whereas
the dry solid sawn is dried slowly.
Other
Types of Flooring
Bamboo flooring (which is technically
not considered wood) can be installed very much
like wood flooring. Another type of flooring that
is used in the floor industry is reclaimed (old
or used) lumber. This creates a unique appearance
and has a hue cast of green. View larger picture
